To have told him he's having a laugh?

A man this morning at the train station asked me to help him with the ticket machine. He spoke good English, but not brilliant. I pointed out that he was about to purchase a child ticket for under 16s. I asked if he was under 16 and he said he was. Thinking he may not have understood me, I asked him again. He was clearly late twenties/early thirties! He again said yes to me querying if he was under 16. I asked if he was having a laugh and hoping the conductor would check his ticket, I went on my way. His ticket didn't get checked. He's one of the reasons my ticket price gets more and more expensive. I was narked.
