Why is it so hard to buy a car?!

DH wanted to buy a car last month, duly went through online listings for similar cars at local dealerships, found one he liked and rang them to organise a test drive. Can't do that, it's being used as a courtesy car. Ok. Asked about another one, had a test drive and asked to buy it. Can't get it for a couple of weeks, needs a part replaced. Ok. He did the paperwork and they gave him a courtesy car while they got the car fixed. Two weeks later, it's still not fixed, so he asked about a third car. Can't have that one either because "reasons". He finally - a month later - picked up a car today.

How hard can it possibly be to sell a car advertised for sale to a cash buyer? AIBU to think you should just be able to rock up at the dealership and drive off an hour later with a car?

Maybe he's just been unlucky? I recently bought a car, admittedly from a branded dealership. It was at another garage & had to be moved but I had it within a week, including all the paperwork, money transfer etc.

Sounds like it. This was a branded dealership too. Goodness knows why they seemed utterly incapable of selling a car.
