To dispute rather than ask for a refund?

Ordered a take away last night online. I didnt get the usual confirmation email from the vendor so I phoned up. They hadn’t received my order so I ordered over the phone and payed cash. Woke up this morning and the money from the online order has come out of my account (via PayPal). I would prefer to go to the take away tonight and ask for a refund but I am going away today (hence the take away - no washing up before holiday) and wouldn’t want to phone from the airport.

is it fair for me to dispute it with PayPal as I am unable to speak to them directly tonight? I don’t like confrontation and “filing a dispute” sounds quite serious.

It's fine. It's an accounting error, not an accusation. Paypal will sort it out.

You could email or phone the vendor when they open, then still dispute via PayPal if they don't sort it out straight away.

Thanks both! I will dispute via PayPal and email vendor to notify. Thanks again!
