To think “loyalty” is just romantic branding for codependency?

People say “loyalty” like it’s the ultimate virtue in relationships. But sometimes it just looks like clinging on now matter how bad things get. Isn’t a lot of “loyalty” really just codependency dressed up as something noble?

I see loyalty as a core part of my relationship. It is not unconditional but I am loyal to my wedding vows and I have my DH’s back, as he does mine.

Erm what. Do you even know what codependency is?!

Yes - I’m talking about when one partner’s sense of identity/self-worth is so tied to the other that leaving feels impossible, even when the relationship is toxic. People sometimes label that ‘loyalty’ but I’d argue that’s not the same thing.

No that's not loyalty. So I agree it's not the same thing. You're describing a toxic relationship
