Swimming Pool Etiquette

AIBU for getting enraged by people not showering after using the steam room and dipping straight into the swimming pool?

I’m a member of a private gym that also has a swimming pool. Increasingly, I’ve noticed people coming out of the steam room and going straight into the pool despite there being a shower beside the steam room for this purpose. Tonight, I saw the same woman do it twice… I was so tempted to ask her would she mind having a shower but I bottled it. FYI, there is a pool side sign in the club to remind people.

i think that a shower is essential when first going into the pool-
gets rid of any sock / bum fluff, dirt

if you’ve been in pool, then steam, surely getting into the pool again is a just sweat that the chlorine will easily neutralise ??

You're supposed to rinse the sweat off from sauna or steam room before getting back into the pool/jacuzzi.
TBH I no longer use the health suite and swim much less often these days, partly due to other folk's bad hygiene at the health suite/pool.

Maybe the sign needs to be in a different place. Or be larger given that many people need glasses to read some things and are not wearing them.

No leisure centre in the UK is going to act to stop it, because of the way they are run where staff are not really empowered and supported. A legacy of contracting out leisure services and it not generally being seen as a long term career.

Contrast that with my experiences in the Netherlands and Germany.

YABU in getting “enraged” about it. People have not showered in public pools for as long as I can remember. It’s not worth getting uptight about as you won’t change it. It’s never going to be monitored. So either chill about it or stop using the pool.

I never shower before getting back in the pool after either steam room or sauna.

There’s worse things in the pool than a bit of sweat 😬

There’s a sign at my pool to say a 60 second shower can take care of pollutants contaminating the water. I wish folks would take heed.

I pre-swim shower every single time. Those who don’t turn my stomach.

Hairy armpits loaded with sweat, body dust from building site work. Badly wiped bottoms, cheesy sweaty feet! Vile!
