Hi. I'm a chicken mum to two silkies, Pekin and some red Island bantom. Seeing the chicken thread I was disappointed it wasnt about real hens. We've avoid bird flu lockdown so far. Wish mumsnet did a chicken area like the dog and cat area. X

I was also disappointed with the hen thread, and I don’t have chickens!

@Londonrach1 There is a ‘chicken keepers’ section in topics 😃

Lol I also clicked on hen thread thinking it was about rare bread chickens😂 I just have POL ladies but they are gorgeous but am wistfully thinking about blue egg layers but don't want to upset my happy brood as have has hen pecked chickens before.

I'm here for the chicken chat, was also dissapointed by the expensive hen do 😂

I've kept chickens years ago and looking into getting some polish frizzles and a silkie.

How expensive are plastic coops these days! Years ago I paid 100 for a lovely pretty one and now it's like £660! I really regret giving away my old coop.

I also thought it was about actual hens and was disappointed 🤣

I had bantams - Silkies, Pekin, Wyandotte, Polish and a booted ‘not quite sure’! They were gorgeous and I really miss them even though they were very messy, used to eat my plants and escaped at inopportune moments! We moved from a small rural village into the town and aren’t allowed them anymore.

Was looking forward to some fancy chicken chat 🤣

Another who looked at the expensive hen thread! Knew about the chicken area but it's not much used.

Used to have some lovely birds on my livery yard but the fox came. Survivors moved into my back garden and are now on the allotment where they have more room.
I have 1 pekin and some hybrid layers (blue/green eggs as they are crossed with arcaunas) and I'm thinking of getting some more silkies as we've had them in the past and my daughter adores them too.

I would love to one day own rescues. I’m a total novice though. If you wouldn’t mind, please could I get the lowdown on their breeds and personalities. Who can cohabit and who can’t, that sort of thing. I’d love to hear all about it from people in the know!
