Would you inform the swim school?

That DD has chicken pox which came up the same night she’d had her swimming lesson. DP says not to bother as she’ll not be going this weekend anyway, as it’s her birthday weekend. (Hoping they’ll be scabbed over by then) but I think it’s best to tell them in case anyone else gets them?

I would tell the swim school. I'd want to know, and i think most parents would too.

Presumably you'd tell nursery/school/ brownies/cubs etc so swimming is no different.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 30/07/2025 17:04

I wouldn’t bother.

Rizzz · 30/07/2025 17:04

You wouldn't be unreasonable but I'm not sure it would occur to me to tell them.

Because if anyone's child gets chicken pox, surely the parents will spot it?

Frostynoman · 30/07/2025 17:06

I think it’s the decent thing to do

RaininSummer · 30/07/2025 17:06

I doubt the swim school will contact the other parents tbh so probably no point.

I would let them know in case there are any pregnant women amongst the mums there - they might be able to get the vaccine, to prevent possibly serious birth defects if they did catch CP.

Chicken pox is very contagious, so they wouldn’t even need to be that close to your child to catch it, @Lovleybreeze. And if I remember correctly, it is most contagious just before the spots come out.

Lemonade2011 · 30/07/2025 17:31

You can’t have the vaccine if you are pregnant. So you’d need to have it before conceiving if you wanted to protect yourself.

I’d let them know, some people have children or close family who are immunocompromised so handy to let the organisers know why she’s off her lesson. Hope she’s on the mend soon op

My apologies - I didn't know that. Thank you for telling me, @Lemonade2011.

I do still think the OP should let the swim school know, in case there are any pregnant women there - they should know they may have been exposed to CP.

It’s a 30 second email or phone call - why wouldn’t you ? Takes nothing from your life - but could be really important to a vulnerable person…
