SWR lost property - just no help at all

Okay so posting in AIBU maybe the worse decision I’ve made today. I’m at an absolute loss!

My husband travelled with South Western Railways on 7th July. He left his small bag on the train when he got off (completely his fault) he had two bags with him, he normally only carries one.

He called me as he was due in meetings so I filled in the online details that evening. He was returning home the next day so went to lost property at Waterloo and they said that yesterdays lost property had made it to them as yet.

I found a phone number on line and have tried it many times unsuccessfully. I’m at home all day due to disability so easier for me to try and sort this for him.

I then decided to call customer services but they say they don’t have any contact with lost property at all. But gave me an email address, I’ve emailed twice

Ive uploaded a picture and full information on what was in his bag but no call as the site promises.

It must be a nightmare for rail
companies dealing with people’s lost property but when it’s impossible to get through to anyone what else can I do.

He’s away again with work and I physically can’t get to Waterloo, we’re up North. They say that they get rid of lost property after 3 months. What else can I do? Really can’t afford to replace what he’s lost either.

I’ve tried to follow the process but nothing, any ideas or do we just have to right it all off?

He realises it was a stupid thing to do, he works incredibly hard to look after us all and I think he’s just exhausted which is why he forgot.

He has another 2 months plus to make the trip to Waterloo, so why are you writing it off?

He will have to organise himself to go there and sort it out.

Have you searched and found the listing (as in have they listed it as a found item)?

I’m going to Waterloo on Thursday if you’d like me to ask at the desk?

I can then post to you… happy to send you my socials / ID so you can be reasonably sure I’m not going to pinch it.

I’m offering as I’ve been through all this recently and it was a nightmare even for someone who is in Waterloo regularly!

I’ve also had a terrible run of bad luck for the last 4-6 weeks and while this is total nonsense perhaps doing someone a good turn will break it (wishful non-scientific thinking obvs).

Wheresmymojo thanks so much for your very lovely offer. It is appreciated. I’m sending you lots of good karma vibes for being so kind.

I decided to email again and cc in customer services, I got a reply from them in minutes! They say they’ve looked and it’s not been returned to them. It’s a lesson learnt although im not giving my wonderfully kind, caring DH any aggro as he’s exhausted looking after me and the business.

We will just have to replace things lost slowly via Vinted.

Ah, sorry to hear that. What a shame.
