To hate the thieving McDonalds app?

Once in a blue moon, I’ll randomly crave a McDonalds and tonight was one of those nights. Put in the order on McDonalds’ own app, saw there was an offer for some free McNuggets, so added them as a ‘What the hell, why not?’.

Went to pay and got an error message saying that something in my basket was not valid. No worries, I removed the offer (as it was greyed out on my screen), changed an item and tried again.

It worked. Huzzah! Crap impulse food is on its way to me!

Pottered around a bit sorting stuff out while keeping an eye on the tracker and checked my emails. Thought it was weird that I hadn’t had a confirmation so checked my junk mails.

Two confirmation emails. I’d been charged twice.

I tried the in-app help on the order tracker but it was UberEats customer service and they said the issue was with the McDonalds app.

I tried using the help function in the customer service section of the app but it was just chatting to a bot that crashed. Twice.

Called the store three times but it rang out each time.

Tried the help function again but the bot just kept crashing each time.

Now I have two almost identical meals stinking up my living room, a hole in my bank balance and I’m annoyed enough that I don’t want to eat either now.

ARGH - is there anything worse than trying to sort an issue that isn’t of your making and not having a human to speak to?!

YABU - customer service has changed and you can’t expect companies, especially huge global ones, to really care about your piffling order or to sort things out.

YANBU - customer service bots suck and don’t even get me started on those automated phone options that seem to be incapable of understanding a single word I say. Bring back proper customer help!

The mcdonalds app is the worst one known to humankind. Beggars belief it is the work of a huge, multinational corporation!

And dont get me started on delivery.

16 hours later, cold fries resembling stale cardboard, melted milkshake tasting solely of chemicals, 2 missing burgers and the wrong sauce.

Every. Time.

Call to complain, it's uber's fault, take it up with them.

IZK · 27/07/2025 22:43

I've never used their app.

I use JustEat or Uber Eats and still get my free 6 nuggets.

floppybit · 27/07/2025 22:48

I’ve only used it twice and both times I got someone else’s order and it was freezing cold. I won’t bother again.

blackbird77 · 27/07/2025 23:19

I love McDonalds but their app is absolutely shocking. For one of the biggest companies in the world, you’d think they would create an app that at least did what it’s supposed to. They must spend like 5p on it a year.

LaughingCat · 27/07/2025 23:25

Oh my god, I’m glad it’s not just me being inept on there! It really is that bad. @IZK - I used the app to collect the points…but at a double charge, that’s turned out to be a false economy 😭

I have never had a problem with the App. It always works fine for me. I’m surprised it’s considered crap.

Did for me until tonight…it’s like that poem, ‘when she was good, she was very, very good but when she was bad, she was awful!’ I’d had a couple of minor issues with it before but it really comes into its own when you have to get help for something. Absolute nightmare.

i usually just use uver eats or just eat maccies app never works

they got my order wrong last week uber refunded me straight away

Toseland · 28/07/2025 00:03

It's terrible - the Russian Roulette of dinner - you may or may not get what you ordered! Only order if you can cope with being disappointed!

I would complain @LaughingCat – whenever I complain to McD's they are always really good. It is not easy to find the email deets for CS on the website but the info is there. I complained about a cappuccino not being as it should be (ie frothy) and they refunded me the points it had cost and gave me a voucher for a free meal.

I agree that the app is not the best tho.

Ooohhh…I’ll go searching again. I even searched ‘complain‘ on their website and just got sent back to their infernal robot. DM’d them on Insta and seeing if they come back that way as well.

On the plus side, I just had the second McFlurry for breakfast, so feeling less annoyed. Peak nutrition at its finest, there 😂

It's not just you! I live on the other side of the world to you, and had a problem last week.

I very rarely buy from there as I am gluten intolerant, but every now and then I have a crave and just go for it (and suffer after).

I don't know if you get them, but my crave was for waffle fries. I ordered on the app and was nearby to a branch, so that I could just pick up via the drive thru. I order, no problem and pay. Get to the drive thru and there is no order for me. Nothing on their system. I show my order and payment. Oh no they say, it didn't come through. Check branch and everything is correct. Can I go and park up while they investigate, or would I like to come inside they ask. No I bloody well don't as surely this is defeating the point of, y'know, pre-ordering.

I park up. Sit and wait. Wait a bit more. Finally a manager come out and say they found the problem. Waffle fries are discontinued now! Er. so you can order, and pay for an item on the app, which is no longer available. FML. So I was pissed off at them, and pissed off that I can now not fulfill my craving.

angelcake20 · 28/07/2025 09:30

I use the app regularly and often wonder how such a huge corporation can have such a lousy app. We’ve had the double payment thing a couple of times, although it’s usually in a store and they have come to check with us.

mumda · 28/07/2025 09:40

If you've paid by card claim it back via them. They might tell you that you have to go to the company, but tbh you can enjoy talking to the human at the credit card company until they give in as it'll be more satisfying than banging your head against the wall of nonsense.

It should be as easy to claim money back as it was to have paid it.

ChickalettasGiblets · 28/07/2025 09:52

Yep the app is garbage, tried using it to order ahead where we are yet when you get to the drive through to pick up the food it always crashes or can’t pick up your location!! Thought it was my phone/network but it has happened to DH as well

Same here apart from a weird glitch where it crashes the first time you open it and has to be restarted but that's no big deal.

I've got about twenty McPlants in points!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 28/07/2025 10:15

Does the money for one bounce back into your account after a time lapse? Sometimes when you pay by card the money goes out twice but one will come back in (after a period of time when nobody apparently has this money, yet the bank seems to know exactly where it is). It happens in the supermarket where I work, one payment will error out (but still leave your account), you have to pay 'again', and the first payment will come back (eventually, which leads to many many arguments on the shop floor - we really DON'T have your money, it's just a glitch).
