Not collecting a Vinted order

I bought some jewellery which had Cos as the brand. Going back to look at it again - although the brand says Cos, in the description it says ‘Cos inspired’ - so could be any old crap. I should have read it properly but also I think I’ve been misled. I haven’t collected it yet. Am I being unreasonable if I don’t collect it and it gets sent back??

I think if you didn't read the description properly it's on you really. Unfortunately you have to collect it and suck up the purchase. You never know, the stuff may look really nice and it turns out to be a good buy?

nomas · 27/07/2025 19:53

If the seller has selected Cos as the brand, then they’re being misleading.

Contact Vinted and explain why you no longer want the item.

I know - it might be lovely. It didn’t occur to me that people would select a brand if it wasn’t actually that brand and it feels like a riskier purchase now.

I know what you mean, I made a similar eBay error in the past. It's annoying, I totally sympathise.

If they ticked cos as the brand Yanbu
If they didn’t and it said it in the title yabu

Do you know if it impacts your feedback rating? I feel like not collecting something is bad form generally but I feel a bit tricked

Don’t collect it

crinkletits · 27/07/2025 20:20

I forgot to collect an order last week and I just had a refund .. feel quite awkward about it. But I’ve lost out as it’s was a huge bargain and now sold.

I don’t think you get the option to leave feedback as the sale is incomplete.

Newsenmum · 28/07/2025 19:08

You’ll jsut lose it. You wont get any money back. Just collect and resell.

In that case I wouldn’t, it’s misleading. If they list it again report it.

Vinted don’t care about ‘inspired’ items. I’ve reported quite a few as it really irritates me when I’m searching for a specific brand and a ton of ‘inspired by’ items come up listed under the brand. Vinted won’t take any action and just suggest you block that seller.

Still 5/5

Namechangerage · 29/07/2025 12:50

I’d collect it and have a look, then raise a proper dispute. They shouldn’t have listed as Cos.

Otherwise you don’t get your postage fee refunded where I believe if the item was listed inaccurately the seller pays postage to get it returned and you get a full refund. I may be mistaken.

Friday1234 · 29/07/2025 16:54

I got in touch with the seller as it felt less shifty than just not collecting it. They were defensive - I should have known by the price etc. I don’t agree though - it’s Vinted where stuff is cheap and it’s Cos not Chanel. They said I could send it back but I’m still in two minds - can you trust a Vinted seller who deliberately misleads? And which option would leave me least out of pocket and not damage my feedback I wonder

Don’t send it back. If you do you will pay for postage. If you just ignore you will get a full refund.

Won’t that be a refund of what I paid minus postage?

No, you get the refund for the price of the item + shipping and Buyer Protection fees, and because the sale will be considered incomplete, the seller won’t be able to leave a review.

The item will be sent back to them.

Its in your best interest and the seller won’t lose out on their item either.

Unfortunately you’ve screwed yourself by doing this, unless the seller has agreed to pay your return postage?

Vinted policy is for returns to be sent at the buyer’s expense (unless the seller offers to cover the cost) so if you return it, you will get your initial costs back but will lose the return postage cost. And you’ll have to wait for the seller to accept receipt before you receive any refund.

Whereas if you hadn’t collected it, it would have been returned to the seller at no cost to you or the seller and you would have received a full refund.

It’s really important when buying on Vinted that you check all the details and photos. If you think you are buying something branded, make sure there is a photo of the brand label (and size). Message the seller and ask for one if you’re uncertain. Don’t just go ahead and buy. And if it says “inspired” anywhere on the listing, it’s a copy of a brand’s style/item rather than the real thing.

Yeah I have lost out on the postage. But am telling myself that’s my fault for buying quickly and it’s a small cost for doing the right thing!! It actually is a good reminder to be careful on Vinted

Yeah Vinted is a minefield unfortunately. There are some lovely and very genuine sellers (and buyers) but also some very dodgy ones and then everything on the scale in between the two extremes.

I tend to only buy from sellers who are selling their own actual items rather than resellers (there’s a LOT of those). Resellers seem to be a lot more ‘fluid’ with their descriptions. Stick to items for sale with detailed descriptions and good quality photos (which include brand labels, size labels and material composition labels) and check the seller’s reviews before buying.
