Single mother being intimidated by abusive builder

TeamKnight7 · 27/07/2025 11:09

Went to builders business address to speak to co director regarding the long standing issues that his brother had not fixed and was verbally abused by the brother. Co director was not there.
I went alone and am still in shock from the aggressive verbal abuse.
now I’m worried about pursuing this with them.
any advice ?

What had the single mother part got to do with it?

There isn't a husband or man to take this up with them and therefore they could well think its an easy ride
if it wasn't put in the post then people would say get your dh to deal with it - so rather than drip feed the op put it in the post and then gets - whats being a single mother got to do with it - ops an't win, if they put to much info or too little

Well that would make me dig my heels in. I am definitely the most erm, vocal between my man and me and it would probably be myself fighting with the builders.
What are your other options, are you prepared to take the financial hit as presumably you have already paid for their services.
Report to trading standards and small claims court.
Don't be a pushover or a helpless wee woman.
Good luck op

No partner to back her up. Safety of children to consider. Very relevant information. You are rude.

I haven’t got any helpful advice but posting to give support and bump post.

Was he threatening? You could call 111 but then the builders are never going to resolve the issues.

Does anyone know if the local authority can do anything?

I was not intending to be rude. It genuinely seemed disjointed and not relevant to me.

Thank you for saying that. It really upsets me on threads when posters ask for advice and the first reply attempts to discredit them in some way (intentionally or not).

PeonyBulb · 27/07/2025 12:26

Take them to the small claims court

That’s awful, OP 💐

He’s had over £200,000 off of me. They came highly recommended but other brother had led the other jobs.
hes saying they made a loss and says I still owe £5000. I refused to pay until leaks were fixed and now he’s repeatedly told me to “f**k off” or he would call police.
He’s a bully and I feel intimidated. I guess I’m looking for advice support to pluck up courage to go back and try to see co director instead.
