To be terrified that I have rendered myself infertile?

Roundofapplauses · 26/07/2025 19:09

I have just been tested and informed that I have contracted chlamydia, and herpes.
Please no judgement, I have been with my partner for years. I was told that both chlamydia and herpes can be symptomless, so I have no idea for how long I have had it. It would have to be longer than 3 years now, at this point.

We have been ttc for around 2 years, as in, not using any contraception and having very regular sex, and nothing has happened.

Have I made myself permanently infertile?

Really sorry you're going through this. Take the meds you need to and attend any check ups. They should be able to give you some direction.

I'm sorry I don't have any other words of advice or experience to share.

If possible may be go private and see what they advise.

bluecurtains14 · 26/07/2025 19:51

They can both be around for years, but are you sure of his fidelity? Asymptomatic chlamydia is much less likely to affect fertility than symptomatic and herpes doesn't at all so try not to stress too much. TTC for 2 years needs to = GP appointment.

I know no one can ever be sure, but I am as sure as sure. We have lived together almost from the start and other than work (we work at the same place too!), we are either at home together or out with friends together.

Thank you

Are you really saying that neither of you got checked before having unprotected sex? On the vanishingly tiny chance that this is real, he will certainly have these infections too.

Being that we were very young and stupid, no.
Of course I regret that now.
Why would this not be real? Wow!

No need for the nastiness and judgement.

Op, get a hycosy test, it is a test to check if your tubes a blocked which is something that I can occur due to those stis. Sorry that you are going through this x

Dearnurse · 26/07/2025 20:26

Herpes does not affect fertility, chlamydia however can , don't panic if you had not symptoms just speak to your gp & ask to be referred to a specialist as your having fertility issues . Your partner also need to be on antibiotics or he will infect you again .. its something like 1 in 3 people have herpes I wouldn't worry too much about that x

Didimum · 26/07/2025 20:29

Pelvic inflammatory disease from chlamydia is what can cause infertility, not chlamydia itself.

I think it was you saying you’ve been with your partner “for years” and yet your only conclusion was that you must have caught it before him. No thought or fear that he might have given it to you by being unfaithful. I struggle to understand how it wouldn’t have crossed your mind?

Is that when it causes pain? I haven’t had any of that at all.

Oh seriously shut it! The op is asking for advice re her fertility. She doesn’t need you stirring shit re whether her partner has been unfaithful or not ffs!

PID doesn’t always have symptoms :(

I don’t think I was judgy or nasty, just incredulous. I guess it’s because I grew up in the 80s 🤷‍♀️

Are you genuinely that surprised? You can’t believe that every couple get tested at the start of every new relationship, even if it is good practice?

CatchHimDerry · 26/07/2025 20:34

The herpes wouldn’t have shown up even if they were tested, it’s not included in routine screening.

I have HSV2, OP, no judgement here and no effect on fertility.

hopefully they’ll clear that chlamydia up for you both and take it from there x

No I’m very sure she doesn’t. But a) no one here can tell OP if her fertility is fine and b) if I was ttc and got this diagnosis it would give me pause, as I’m sure it would lots of us. How many threads do we see where women have kids with a guy and are then fucked over? The source of infection is important!

Of course it’s very likely OP’s fella is entirely innocent but I am old and nothing surprises me any more. I am posting with the best of intentions 😘

Foreverm0re · 26/07/2025 20:54

Why does every single post on here lately have someone claiming it mustn’t be real? Why even bother being on here if you think every post is fake ffs.

I have infertility from PID and it was very painful for me (but undiagnosed due to GPs not taking female pain seriously unfortunately). But I had no idea I had had chlamydia. My tubes were badly blocked and I had IVF to have my DD.

guessing if you have an active chlamydia infection it can be treated and won’t have a chance to cause PID.

Yes, pain, pain when peeing and heavy painful periods

Not genital herpes. That’s 10-13% of people.
more have the cold side variety of herpes.

Catwoman8 · 26/07/2025 21:34

@Roundofapplauses I had it 5 years and I never had symptoms. Long story short, found out ex partner had cheated on me and I went to get a routine test. I knew it was him who I had contracted it from as I was all clear before I got into a relationship with him and had never been with anyone else at the point I was tested. I too had the same worries as you, I have had a child though since. I think you have to have had it for many years for it to affect fertility. Sorry to hear you what has happened, I still remember the shame I felt at the time even though I wasn't at fault.

Why would someone make up a post like this? Bizarre comment.
