We are looking to book a last minute holiday in August (me, DH, DC12 and DC10).

When I was a child we would go on holiday to these lovely places with a promenade along the beach lined with restaurants/tavernas and beautiful scenery…. I have been looking for a holiday this week and have no idea where to go and google recommended Magaluf (having been there after my A Levels in 1999 I am not sure I want to go back).

I haven’t been on a holiday like that for about 25 years (we’ve been more backpacking type holidays until now) - can anyone recommend somewhere they have been and loved?

Agadir in Morocco. 7km promenade with nice beach and good hotels.

Not been for years but Puerto Pollensa, Mallorca has a beach lined with bars and restaurants.

Have a look at the Algarve. We loved Lagos.

Nice - for the English Promenade.

Corsica is breathtaking, as well.

Icmeler in Turkey. Just as you describe

Paxos? Either Loggos or Lakka might fit the bill. Small island, really friendly and still feels traditional. Lots of tavernas serving great food. You can hire a boat and find a quiet bay for the day, the swimming and snorkling is fab thanks to the clear sea. You can go exploring on foot, by boat and by car.

If your DC need lots of organised activities it's not the place, but if you fancy real Greece it's perfect.

Look at Salou. Quite central to lots of other towns and resorts and very family friendly.

HaMargaritaAh · 25/07/2025 09:21

Great Yarmouth, Blackpool & many other UK seaside towns

Ask chat GPT. I found our holiday this year by giving it all the things we wanted most and wanted to avoid, and it found a perfect hotel which I could then search through the holiday sites.

Italian lakes - lovely for long walks stopping off for drinks!

Have a look at the Algarve - my oh would recommed Villamoura.

Makarska in Croatia but the beach is pebbly and narrow so gets full.

randomchap · 25/07/2025 14:24

Istria in Croatia.

Cala Bona is linked to Cala Millor along a promenade with lots of bars and restaurants. There’s other less touristy places nearby if you fancy a change of scene.

Another vote for Puerto Pollensa!
