Barbers just don’t listen

Took 7-yr old DS to barber for second time in his life. Taken years to get over trauma of the first visit. I asked barber to take hardly anything off the length and just tidy up sides and back. Gave very specific instructions about keeping the back long because otherwise it won’t sit properly as he has so much hair. He agreed then proceed to cut the whole lot off taking the back from about 3 to 0.5 inches. It looks awful and will take months to grow back. Yes I know it’s hair and it will come back eventually but why is it like this every time?

That's why I started taking my ds to my own hairdresser when he was younger as the barber just wanted to chop everything off even when asked to leave certain bits longer

In kicking myself that I didn’t go to a hairdresser instead. But was convinced by my friend that this barber would actually do what I asked.
