Does anyone else find this sort of thing written on friends social media posts a bit naff? I always roll my eyes. Not trying to be bitchy, but actively going off one old friend due to this and wondering if she was always like this or we’ve just grown apart

I'd never write that sort of thing myself, but I see others do it. I just assume they need to "gee themselves up" to do something. Perhaps they think if they share it then they are more likely to achieve whatever it is their goals are.

I sometimes feel it's a bit concerning is people say those sorts of things a lot - maybe it means they are not happy. Don't we all have goals and live our own lives (I don't mean that critically just that personally I cant imagine why I'd need to share it)

BallerinaRadio · 24/07/2025 00:03

You're not trying too hard not to be bitchy tbh

ColinCaterpillarsNo1Fan · 24/07/2025 00:09

Linkedin is full of wannabe inspirational leadership influencers. It makes me feel ill reading all the shit people write about themselves. A person could pop into a conference for 10 mins max & they'll go on linkedin spewing all the influencer shite. You could gave shaken someone's hand & suddenly they're your BFF & it's all over linkedin.

BurntBroccoli · 24/07/2025 00:15

Urgh yes. Unfortunately it’s filtering into my workplace too in various teams who are only too ready to brag about things.

Whenwillthisendhey · 24/07/2025 08:49

It’s just all this ‘Time for me to smash my goals’ followed by ‘Stay quiet’ or ‘Stay humble’ we’ll you’re not are you 😅
I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, I don’t have all these goals to smash or think in this way of speech, if that makes sense!

Yep, like the motivational posters on office walls. A little bit sad really.

I hate "smashed it" and "completed it mate", especially when it's adults using it constantly for things their children do. The pressure to keep 'smashing it' must be mad.

Dweetfidilove · 24/07/2025 09:43

It's really not for me, but I'm in my 'whatever floats your boat era' 🤷🏾‍♀️.

That's the other thing that's not for me - all the different eras people seem to go through.

Ironfloor269 · 24/07/2025 09:47

YABU, OP. Maybe they have Greek ancestry.

BodenCardiganNot · 24/07/2025 09:49

'My children, my world.'
No, get them off your Instagram page.

It's certainly not for me.

But then again, nor is "If that makes sense" tagged onto the end of something really simple that would make sense to a 4 year old.

It's irritating 'meeting speak', just like 'reaching out', 'touching base' and 'low-hanging fruit'.

So not too dissimilar to what you're complaining about.

SilenceOfTheTimTams · 24/07/2025 10:00

Social media is shite all round really.

Yeah, so little Lee and Madison went trampolining on holiday. They definitely smashed it. Definitely.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 24/07/2025 11:15

It's pathetic and instantly puts me off a person. Much like "inspirational" words on a wall.

I loathe ‘smashed it’ but very much enjoy ‘completed it mate’ because I always read it in the voice of Jay from The Inbetweeners 😁

Cattery · 24/07/2025 11:30

It’s just ridiculous sound bites they’ve seen somewhere. Cringing

ColinCaterpillarsNo1Fan · 24/07/2025 18:23

All this "this is what true leadership looks like" and "speaking my truth" yuk, makes me want to 🤢

LinkedIn is like looking through the window into some weird cult. I open it up every now and again, wonder what the fuck is wrong with everyone, then promptly close it.

PurpleChrayn · 24/07/2025 18:33

I’m not friends with idiots so I never see this.

soupyspoon · 24/07/2025 18:35

Ive never heard of stay quiet. What does that mean and why dont people stay quiet then if this is a new buzzword?

SharpLily · 24/07/2025 18:40

This modern, social media speak is fucking ugly. Love a bit of social media personally because I'm nosy but I admit I spend a fair amount of time on there looking down my nose at people who use these kind of hideous catchphrases.

A friend of mine runs a small business locally. A couple of years ago she got some marketing advice. Suddenly she was always 'super excited' to be 'rolling out' stuff she'd always done. She has lots of shiny new banners and has rebranded under a new name. As far as I can see she has the same clients as she always had - no real expansion, just a lot of generic online 'living the dream' language which makes me sad as she is a lovely woman but sounds increasingly inauthentic every time she opens her mouth.

Wolfpinkola · 24/07/2025 22:46

LinkedIn has the highest proportion of male users that’s why it’s weird
