Baby’s teething for the first time… AIBU to ask

Have we got away with it? I’ve just found a tooth erupting in my DD’s mouth. It’s definitely broken the gum. She hasn’t been crying, no dribbling, no chewing anything… is it still to come? I’m a FTM and clueless!

Aw - I loved it when DD’s first few teeth came in, it just looks so sweet! Unfortunately she wasn’t as lucky as yours and we knew about it in great detail (to the point I wondered if we were giving her too much medicine - nurofen was better than calpol for us btw).

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you but I think it’s unlikely you’ll get through the whole of teething unscathed. I don’t think they’re finished till after 2/2.5 and there’ll be a bit of grousing along the way! The molars were a particular treat!

You might have got away with it - DS2 has been incredibly stoical about his and we only really notice the teething because of the frankly astonishing amount of dribble, and sometimes runny poos. He's never cried or stopped sleeping or anything.

The first one elicited merely a single cry of pain the night before it popped through.

The second, third and fourth however…!

It can really vary, some they suffer with, others just appear. I was told molars are a nightmare to come in. One day she was laughing and I realised they were all there and we hadn't noticed.

Hopefully she'll have it easy but you've got 19 more to cut, so you may find other teeth are a bit more troublesome.

The only sign my children have silver had of teething is that they had a new tooth!

I appreciate that I’m probably just really lucky, but I also wonder whether a lot of normal baby behaviour is blamed on “teething”.
