Vinted - have I been scammed???

I'm not a big seller on Vinted but I just had my first negative experience...

I sold my daughter's skirt. She is 9yrs old and tall so is in 10-11yr old. I advertised the skirt (9yrs old) and for £3. It quickly sold but when received, the buyer sent me a nice message to say it was a size 6yrs which is ridiculous as I get rid of her clothes as soon as they don't fit. She is disputing and can send back but I will need to pay for it. It's not the money but the injustice of someone getting a freebie, as I'm sure she has got a 6yr old one to dispose of and will keep my daughters one for her daughter. Any one else seen this technique used???

ask her to send a picture of the skirt and the labels inside

OtterlyMad · 22/07/2025 20:02

I thought that buyers on Vinted had to pay return postage if they wanted to return?
Did you not take any photos of the label showing it is aged 9?

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/07/2025 20:02

Vinted’s policy is that the buyer pays for returns unless the seller agrees to pay (but no onus is put on the seller to do this). So in your case @Shadders135 your buyer should pay return postage to you since they’re claiming it’s not as described but you disagree. So you should get the skirt back at no cost to you and the buyer will be refunded once you receive it.

What does the label on the actual skirt say re age/size?

Mylovelygreendress · 22/07/2025 20:02

It’s the buyer who pays for the return postage .

RetroViral · 22/07/2025 20:03

Call her bluff. Tell her you don’t have any size 6 clothes and you took pictures of the label with the size on it before you sent it to her, so if you get a size 6 back in the post it won’t be yours.

Punkkatkitty · 22/07/2025 20:04

The buyer pays the postage back if they are not happy with the item. Ask her to send photos of the labels to prove it’s the incorrect size.
i always take pics of the labels for my listings for this exact reason. Some rights chancers about!

Iloveeverycat · 22/07/2025 20:07

Did she send a pic of the label saying 6. I always put the measurements on everything I sell.

Smartiepants79 · 22/07/2025 20:08

This is why I take as many photos of the item I’m selling as I can. I always include the label so there is no room for misunderstanding. Hopefully you’ll just get it sorted but next time - more pics!

She has to pay if she wants to return. It’s Vinted policy
