These reels. I keep getting horrendous and freaky reels on childbirth and deformed babies etc.
I just don't want to see them?
Who would? Yes I've said I don't want to see them and tried to go into settings etc.
I've clicked on see less of this.

They might stop for a minute then come back.
Is this what they want to do, drive everyone away?🙄

If you don't click on them at all, they will stop. Start clicking on lots of cat reels and they'll soon take over.

RideMeSidewaysWasAnother1 · 22/07/2025 13:22

It sounds like a page you follow has been hacked. You might want to remove yourself from that page.

castleclass · 22/07/2025 13:32

I have literally never watched a reel on Facebook, I just scroll past.

I'm not watching it, but they keep being there in my face.

Oh, it says click if you want to see less of this content.

Go into your phone settings and stop video auto play. At least then they won’t start playing as you try and scroll past the reels appearing in your feed.

Honestly, it’s the worst thing you can do. They see it as an interaction - so decide you want to see more of it because you stopped and looked at the content. Never click any sort of reaction or put “see less” etc - just keep scrolling and find something you do like and thumbs up it!

PassingStranger · 22/07/2025 16:17

Will do, why does ir say click to see less though?????

Because it gets you to interact with it. The algorithms are set up that a negative interaction holds more weight than a positive one, as you’ll spend more time on it. It’s all about the advertisers and nothing to do with user enjoyment

Where in the settings please? I don't see that atm.

At some point you interacted so the algorithm thinks you want to see that stuff. Because you hit 'hate' or 'sad' or clicked the link to see more. The algorithm is primitive.

To curate your feed, ONLY interact with things you want to see more of. Only hit like/hate/sad/heart for things you want to see. Do not click on anything you dislike and be liberal with muting or hiding or "Not interested" whenever that option is available. You are in charge of what you see, you have to actively manage it.

This is why conspiracy theorists & extremists get created. Their whole feed is quickly dominated by crazy stuff. Because they had one wee look. Also, furious haters see more & more of what upsets them. They literally (maybe unknowingly) curated their feed to only show them stuff that makes them very upset. Then they end up thinking that's all there is to know in the world.

Can't stop Ads or the fucking inane AI comments though. Those AI suggestions enrage me and I can't turn the wee feckers off. The ads are at least funny in their inappropriateness.

lljkk · 22/07/2025 17:07

ps: "hate" is the strongest interaction emoji, try to never hit that one unless you want to see heaps more of the same imagery or stories.

lljkk · 22/07/2025 17:10

... I think the testimony to USA Congress a few yrs ago was that the reactions are prioritised like in this order, from "make user see more" to barely see more:
(most) hate
sad or care
love
(smallest efffect) like

Unhappiness has thus been monetised... not a surprise I guess.

AngelicKaty · 22/07/2025 17:12

@PassingStranger Ever thought of just coming off Mugbook altogether?

I can only tell you for an iPhone but just search for it in Settings and turn it off.

Now I'm getting adult babies in nappies even if I turn off the video play I'm still getting images , this is mad why am I seeing such extreme snd awful stuff.

OP posts:
Notspeaking9363 · 23/07/2025 10:00

Same thing for me. Mine is always full of dead bodies , car accidents , mangled people or deformed babies. I have NEVER watched or clicked any , and watch lots of the nicer stuff but still this dominates. I cant understand why.

PassingStranger · 23/07/2025 10:19

I read this.

You’re not overreacting. Many users are frustrated with how platforms push disturbing content in the name of “engagement.” You have every right to protect your peace and push back.
