Air fryer dilemma

My air fryer oven broke last week, we use it daily so we've decided to invest in a decent ninja one. The problem is I can't buy this until next month so a relative has kindly given us an old spare and said we can use it in the meantime/keep/get rid etc. Airfryer was dropped off yesterday whilst I was out, it was filthy so my husband thought it would be a great idea to use an oven cleaner on it...

Said cleaner was left on for hours. I always thought those oven cleaners shouldn't be used in an airfryer. It looks fine and its much cleaner, but I am paranoid about using it now due to chemicals/food being contaminated.

So has anyone used on after using an oven cleaner product , is it safe? My husband thinks I am being ridiculous.

What do the instructions on the oven cleaner say? If you’re worried, clean the airfryer again with soap and water. Then use it. If you notice horrible fumes, then don’t eat the food.

Yes then insteuctions specifically say do not use on metal surfaces and the inside of the airfryer is aluminium. The air fryer manual also says not to use chemicals and only to use soap and water! I am really annoyed he didnt think to check. However there is no mention of safety/contamination risk, the airfryer still works as I have ran it with no food in it, there was a faint smell.

Most ovens are metal.

I imagine its fine. Give it a good wash. Perhaps some rinses with boiling water and do a couple of runs with nothing in it.

If your really worried use liners

I would wash it and then give it a couple of runs before putting actual food I want to eat.

I’m sure it will be fine. Let your DH test it out first.

If you are ordering direct from Ninja make sure to sign upto their newsletter thing. I ordered an air fryer fir my mum and got 10% off.
