How to not let negativity get to you

DP’s ex has always been very bitter and jealous towards us, doesn’t bother me. What does bother me is the constant hate towards me, calling me ugly, fat, tacky etc. I know I shouldn’t let it get to me, but it does. I’ve never once mentioned her appearance or anything as I’m not a child. How do I stop it bothering me?

They can't get your goat if they don't know where you tie it up.

Why is she in your life?

YesHonestly · 20/07/2025 22:34

Recognise that it is a reflection of her and her issues and absolutely nothing to do with who you are.

Pity her.

They have a DC. She’s not in our life per se. I tried to be civil but find it easier to just step back and ignore her now.

How are you hearing these comments?

NuffSaidSam · 20/07/2025 22:42

Just cut all contact. Let your DH handle any communication.

Absolutely love this!

Realise she is broken and her way of looking at the world causes her lots of misery in her life… remind yourself “poor her” for the suffering she brings on herself.

…and keep on enjoying your life

I basically treat it like a toddler tantrum: unpleasant at the time, but not to be taken any more seriously than a strop because you cut the toast the wrong way - the way they asked for five seconds earlier.
