To think friend was rude?

Am I being too sensitive?

I have an old friend from 20 years ago, don’t see her loads anymore but we meet for coffee every 6 months or so. Used to be very close but with work/life/kids we are just busy.

I’ve always gone on bike rides with my kids. Since they were old enough to go in a baby seat on the bike. As they got older we all cycle together regularly, take our bikes on holiday, that sort of thing. No big deal.

Anyway, I was meeting friend and talking about what we were doing for the weekend, I casually mentioned to her that I was going on a bike ride after I left her.

She burst out laughing and said “YOU, on a bike”, I was a bit taken aback at her reaction but just sort of mumbled that we go regularly. She couldn’t stop laughing and kept saying how she just couldn’t imagine me on a bike.

Aibu to think wtf about her reaction? I’m not sure what is so strange and unusual about me bike riding with my dc.

Are you in good shape - jealousy?

TerrorAustralis · 20/07/2025 10:34

Your friend is a dick.

MounjaroMounjaro · 20/07/2025 10:36

She sounds nasty, OP.

RevolutionHere · 20/07/2025 10:36

that does sound rude
are you overweight?

MelisandeLongfield · 20/07/2025 10:37

Is there relevant background? When you were close 20 years ago, was riding a bike the last thing you'd have thought of doing - that sort of thing?

oudle · 20/07/2025 10:38

Is there any context? One of my friend loves open water swimming now but as teens/young adults she never ever went in the sea as it was cold, dirty etc.

I’m not overweight at all, I’m in fairly good shape, but certainly not where anyone would be jealous. I’m very ordinary/average. I like to exercise but I’m no fitness fanatic.

There is no unusual backstory, I’ve always exercised and me and her used to go swimming and to the gym together so it’s not as though she can’t imagine the thought of me exercising.

She’s not your friend

Ask her why it’s so funny, then.

Yeah, that's rude.
