Would I be unreasonable to ask this of work?

I work in a nursery and I really dislike my current work photo. It’s on the website and entrance to the nursery when you go inside. I go back to work in September and I’m hoping to make some changes over the holidays and hopefully lose a bit of weight and feel more confident in myself. Maybe have my hair done etc as it’s been a while since I’ve done anything for myself. Would it be unreasonable to ask for my photo redone when I go back for this reason? Do you think they would do so?

Sounds fine to me!

I think it’s fine to ask

Yep, that's fine.

I get a work photo done every year. This year's one is terrible becuase I was in a ton of pain and couldn't wash or style my hair. I asked work to use my previous one, and there was no issue at all.

RimTimTagiDim · 18/07/2025 08:14

Absolutely fine.

Our work photos (also nursery) are photos we’ve sent in from home so they are all different and it meant we got to choose exactly which one went on the wall. I really like this approach, maybe you could suggest something like this?

TourdeFrance2025 · 18/07/2025 08:19

I guess it depends how they're done. If it's done internally then definitely fine to ask, if they've been fine by an outsider, either way matching background, matching sizing frame/head size etc & yours would stand out. Then maybe you'll have to wait until they're booked again.

& good luck, best wishes, on your 'revamp' but remember the kids don't care! They just need/want people that care & are kind to them!

The photo is surely there so that parents and other visitors can identify you - so it needs to be current, if you make changes to your appearance, the photo should be updated.

Totally reasonable to ask, I lost 5stone over the last year or so, and asked work (not a nursery) if my photo could be redone, as it was seen my colleagues, customers and suppliers and it just didn’t look like me anymore - and made me feel awful.

they were more than happy to redo it, and I now no longer cringe at everytime my photo pops up.

Notmyreality · 18/07/2025 09:10

Well yes of course

JMSA · 18/07/2025 09:22

Absolutely fine, assuming it can be done on your phone and they didn’t use a professional!
