Board games for 16yo non conformist?

Whatafustercluck · 17/07/2025 09:01

Posting for traffic. My niece's 16th birthday is coming up. She enjoys adult conversation and games nights. She's intelligent (so likes games that make you think) and she's quirky/ non-conformist (in the best possible way!) She's also into acting, musicals and Stranger Things. Any suggestions for board games please?

My husband's eyes lit up when I asked him what he'd recommend 😂. He plays loads of games online with his mates, and every year, they rent a house in a central location, where they spend the time playing board games.

Popular ones they play include

Azul
Forest Shuffle
Wingspan
Concept

He amsaid there is a website called Board Game Arena, where you can play some of the games to see if you like them.

Does she have anyone to play these board games with?

is she into fantasy games/ group games with cards etc like Magic the Gathering or D&D? My DS is always happy with additional magic the Gathering cards

also loves Scythe but you really need 3 people minimum who all really want to learn the rules 😁

Terraforming Mars
Ark Nova
Wyrmspan
Isle of Cats
Castles of Burgundy.

These are all big games, that can take a several hours but are brilliant! Most of them also have a 'solo' mode so you can play on your own as well.

Bullet heart or Bullet star. They are the same basic game. Superheroine-themed, Manga-style artwork. A pattern-matching logical-thinking game. Solo, teams or competitive modes.

She's an only child but has a small, close knit friendship group and we have a lot of family gatherings (she only lives a few doors down from me, dh and our dc). She plays a lot of games with her parents while on holiday etc.
