Cancelled insurance help

I recently done a quote on a comparison site and added a named driver.
I got a quote and paid for the full year around 2 week before my insurance was due to start.
7 days before my insurance was to start I got an email saying they had concern about my named driver having previous cancellation which I did not know of, and that they have decided to cancel my policy in 7 days. I spoke with the insurers telling them I am unaware and that the named driver is saying they are unaware of any previous cancelation.
I cancelled the policy that day after receiving the email 7 days before it was due to start as it was the only thing i thought i could do, i panicked as it was so close to my existing insurance running out. I am worried about this genuine mistake affecting my future insurance. I even put on the quote the accident my named driver had In 2023 as I was aware of this so fully disclosed it.
Does anyone know where I stand. I worried sick about future insurance coverage and high premiums over something I did not know. I wish I never added my named driver to the policy and feel like I am paying for it for the rest of my life

Exactly - that’s what I would worry about too. You need to get it in writing that you don’t need to declare this. Don’t rely on what was said over the phone.

I have had aviva policy investigation team look on the system to confirm my quote i done on line is correct and he said everything i have told him he is happy with and everything he can see on the system he's happy with. I told him I paid in full for the year with darwin and they messaged me saying they had concerns about my named driver becuase he had cancelled a policy before and cant go with them for 6 years so I cancelled it straight away before them and he said yes it is different from having my policy cancelled as it's voluntary and I done it.

That’s great @Muddledupzekey - glad it’s sorted!

If Darwin confirms that the op cancelled then technically she doesn't have to declare it as a policy terminated by the insurance company.
It's like I have bought a van and had it converted into a motorhome, some insurance companies don't insure conversions unless done by the original manufacturer...I don't have to declare that I have had insurance declined.

Whilst insurance company's will decline for non disclosure, and I did it hundreds of times myself, in the example I gave above where the wife claimed her husband didn't tell her he was disqualified from driving, the ombudsman as it was at the time, found in the customer's favour.

Yes they have put it as a voluntary cancellation becuase they dont think It was deliberately and it was a genuine mistake. I spoke to aviva policy investigation team today because I wanted to take up on a quote with them that I done and explained I had paid for insurance with darwin and through a comparison site with a named driver on and they said they couldn't give me the policy becuase my named driver wasn't allowed to go with them for 6 years after he'd cancelled with them and they have said it was put as a voluntary cancellation. He was happy with this and allowed me to carry on with the policy. He explained to me that I havent had a cancelled policy but the only thing it would stop me from doing is going with any companies with the same underwriters as darwin. I am really glad I spoke with them and was honest with them as it has taken alot of stress and worry off my shoulders. Best thing I done was speak to the insurance company before taking out a new policy

Who is the new named driver?

I'd be furious that they had saddled me with this saga.

Have you got to the bottom of this unknown cancellation they had?

If it does not exist they must work to get it off their record so you can clear yours.

What else have they not told you about?

He has churchil fraud investigation on it as they cant find his registration on their system.

I have spoken to aviva policy investigation team as I decided to go with them and explained everything to them. I told them i wanted to be honest with them. They said they are happy with what I have told them and that they are happy with what they can see on the system. He told me that if darwin have put it as a voluntary cancellation then it is different from having a policy cancelled. The only thing it stops me from doing is taking a policy out with any company underwriten by the same as darwin.
I have not put any named driver on this new policy.
