Laughing emoji

What happened to the laughing emoji? Am I being unreasonable to assume it was removed due to posters being offered? If so this is ridiculous.

There are some truly very witty people on here and I want to appreciate their humour with the click of a button.

AIBU to want to laughing emoji reinstated?

Bullying

Some posters were using it to bully others because they were not brave enough to post their bullying comment in public for all of MN to see.

I've seen this question asked about 20 times now.

NescafeAndIce · 13/07/2025 07:17

It gets asked on every thread! There is an explanatory thread in Site Stuff. The board to go to if you want to know stuff about the site....

shirtyshirt · 13/07/2025 07:40

You can just use normal emojis though 😆

Could you link to it as I've searched down page 1 and can't see anything about emojis, reactions or laughing listed in the titles.

alexalisten · 13/07/2025 08:49

Ridiculous to be offended? when people where using it when talking about feeling suicidal or children dying yeah what wetwipes 🙄. If you want to laugh at someone's comment do this 🤣🤣

It's perfectly possible to appreciate humour in other, public ways by posting something - or even just chuckling to yourself and saving the internet a few unnecessary pixels Grin

All emoji are still there. It's the laugh 'reaction' that has been removed.

Get rid of the Laugh reaction | Mumsnet

We don't need the Laugh reaction. I've now only had it had used mockingly. Specifically for example, in a thread where the op is upset about somethin...

You must spend a lot of time on MN….

I wish Facebook would get rid of the laugh reaction. It’s being used in entirely the wrong way and causes offence to so many people. For example, any post about a tragedy involving a person of colour, even a child, gets laughed at. Any post by a council or police - laughed at. Any post by a car manufacturer - laughed at. Even an elderly person being found dead was laughed at the other day, it’s appalling. These people are getting a kick out of others misfortune.

Its been gone for a while now so either you are an infrequent poster or don't come across many funny posts so wouldn't the emoji suffice?

Viviennemary · 13/07/2025 10:30

I'm glad it's gone. It was used to mock.

I can't believe this is yet another thread on the laugh emoji. It's all been said , on multiple threads.

I'm really glad MN removed it because of the inappropriate use and the bullying and downright nastiness of those misusing it.

And those who want to see its return and don't care about bullying should , quite frankly, take a good look at themselves.
