we have been using Nivea kids factor 50 this summer and this has appeared on my 8 year old. The upper arms has been there all week but today it’s spread. Don’t think it’s sunburn?

he says it’s itchy…

previous years we’ve used soltan and don’t recall seeing this

I can’t see how this would cause a reaction especially as it’s made for kids skin try to put something on to stop the itching for today then see how he later on.

Both my kids were allergic to Nivea sun cream. The only allergy they have and they are now in their 20s

Very naive to think because it's made for kids' skin that it's not full of chemicals and other crap!

Looks like a reaction to the sun cream to me

Only because I’ve used it in the past and it was fine I’m no expert on allergies tbh.

brieandbacon · 12/07/2025 18:12

give him anti histamine to help with the itching

Britneyfan · 12/07/2025 18:12

Looks like sunburn to me (which can feel itchy). If it was a reaction surely it would be all over his body. And the upper arm location make me think it’s where sleeves have rubbed off suncream maybe.

What a silly comment.

Anyone can be allergic or intolerant to anything. The fact it's designed for kids is irrelevant. Mini milks are designed for kids but they'd still have a reaction if they were allergic to dairy!

I’d have thought if it was a reaction, it would be on the areas of the body which is was applied… and surely burn wouldn’t be blotchy?

Why is it silly. I’m just giving the op my opinion I’m not an allergy expert. Fgs some in here are a joke. Opinions are individual to each person.

DD and I both react to Nivea -any Nivea product and get similar rashes. I would get your child to have a shower and change suncream immediately.

ideasrash · 12/07/2025 18:20

Looks like I need a new sun cream!

Yes wherever it was applied. Was just assuming that would basically be all over! And yes sunburn can look blotchy like this especially when it’s the result of suncream being partially applied or rubbed off.

ideasrash · 13/07/2025 09:56

The rash has completely Gone this morning thankfully!

That looks like hives to me. You can get it from plants, grassy areas

wheeltrims · 13/07/2025 10:54

I used Nivea as a child and always thought my face was burnt despite using factor fifty. Red and tingly. Turns out it was the suncream and have been allergic to Nivea ever since. Only brand I can’t touch. Must be something in their perfume or some such they use in every product.
could this be similar or perhaps general heat rash? That can be blotchy and itchy too. If it’s gone down this morning that could be it.

Sahara123 · 13/07/2025 11:16

I get awful prickly heat, it looks very much like that, itchy patches. Caused by blocked pores, I’ve suffered for years. A month ago I was recommended a sun cream for sensitive skin, I’ve not had one speck since, it’s been fantastic! I now use ultrasun , more expensive but so good ! Better than my usual Aldi special 🤣
