First world problem here.

We have a biggish Bestway type above ground pool in the garden, it's great but why oh why does it never ever warm up!

It's in direct sunlight, has a black thermal cover on it but it is absolutely freezing. It is currently 30°c in the garden the patio is scorching yet I go to sit in the pool and can't even sit down as it's so cold.

DS keeps getting in and out as he is shivering and it's a pain in the bum!

What's going on! Have I created my own micro climate?

Any tips for heating this thing up!

I had an in ground pool and the heater packed up one year but it was a steady 26-28 degrees in the water which was plenty warm. What is yours registering? It will be losing heat out the dudes at night?

Well it’s due to the heat capacity of
water - it takes a lot of energy to heat it up. a few hours in the sun even on the hottest day of the year is t going to do much.
You need a heater.
