‘No, kiss me on the lips’

Would be interested to get a few views on this. I was at a wedding recently with friends and the night ended with a fireworks celebration. At the end as the fireworks settled, everyone was treating it like New Years Eve, hugging, kissing, saying goodbye etc. I was going round hugging friends and their partners and I went to kiss the cheek of my friend’s partner. As I did, he moved his face and said ‘no, kiss me on the lips’. I just laughed and said, ‘errr no’. My friend was in earshot and said to me, ‘oh he always does that’.

We’d all had a few drinks and were hyped up after the fun of the day but later I thought it was a bit strange. If it was my partner, I wouldn’t be happy with him saying that to other women. He’s otherwise a nice, decent man and he and my friend seem really happy and secure together.

AIBU to think it’s a bit strange?
YABU and just overthinking a simple gesture?

Of course it's strange, you are not overthinking it. If his partner didn't over react and said oh he always does then that's between them, but obviously it could lead him and others into a whole lot of awkwardness in reality.

Yep, weird.

You’d hope your friend would have clocked how uncomfortable he made you feel and told him not to do it again, but maybe don’t give him the opportunity in the future - do all your other hugs and kisses and give him a cheery wave “bye Dave, lovely to see you” as you’re heading out the door.

disgusting old pervert. You were very polite. No way I’d kiss any of my friend’s husbands on the lips, but none of them have ever suggested such a thing 🤮

TomatoSandwiches · 12/07/2025 16:18

Give him a knuckle sandwich on the lips, he'll never ask you again.

Hell no.

Asshole.

I’m glad to hear I’m not overthinking it! I felt quite embarrassed afterward (no idea why!). If I’m in a situation like that again it’ll definitely be a ‘see ya Dave’. (As a PP suggested)
