Who is at fault?

DH bought fishing lures to take DS1 fishing this weekend. They arrived on Wednesday, I told them both to put them somewhere safe where the cats couldn’t get them — small hooks, attached to feathers, you know? I saw nothing but vet bills and injuries.

Anyway, I assumed they’d been put away. Threw away the Amazon packaging (that was lying on the floor next to the cats’ bowls, but that’s another argument for another day) on Thursday evening and bin day was yesterday.

Guess what was left in the envelope?

Can you? Can you guess?

DH and DS1 say it’s my fault, I should’ve checked the packaging. I say I told them both to put them somewhere safe, so why would I assume they’d left them in the packaging.

If the mumsnet jury decrees it, I will apologise and buy new ones myself.

Did you not feel them in the packaging?

Shame they are both so incompetent so I’d say tough luck to them anyway and maybe it’s a lesson learnt to put things away

Sadly they were very small and light, literally just feathers attached to tiny hooks.

It’s a lesson they obviously needed to learn; you’re not their servant and if they leave shit lying around on the floor, it’ll be binned.

i would use this as a reminder going forward “don’t leave your X/Y/Z lying on the floor, put it away or it’ll end up in the bin like your fishing hooks.” And keep binning stuff until they put their belongings where they should be and don’t treat you like their personal slave.

They are at al fault and they left the package on the floor next the bloody cats area? Are they trying to kill the cats?

idiots I’m 100% with you and always frustrated by my family of incompetent males that I live with.

Seeing as the packaging was on the floor by the cats' bowls, I think you were justified in thinking it was rubbish and binning it.

If it had been packaging left on a table or desk, I'd expect you to check it before binning.
