I’ve had a whole new media wall put in by a joiner however I was quoted extra for lighting which was about £150-£200 for materials and as an electrician would be doing it, it would be £350 extra all in.

However the joiner did it himself and still wants the full extra £350 but I’m of the mindset that I’m already paying him a daily rate so why would I pay the full £350 when that was for an electrician to come out.

I’ve messaged him and told him this and also some of his work I’m not entirely happy about.

He has read it but hasn’t replied but I’m doubting myself and wondering if I’m being unreasonable or if I have a point.

I also haven’t paid him yet as he was coming back today for it.

You’re right to not pay him the day rate plus the £350 for this part of the works. It should be one or the other.

Also, is he qualified to do the electrical works?

The job was £350 and it's been done, you were happy with the price so i think you're just being unnecessarily nitpicky.

Funny enough a few people have mentioned that to me - that he isn’t qualified to do it. I might mention that to him.

Did he just do the light without you knowing/your agreement and now wants paying?

Maybe electrician let him down and he’s trying to help you get the job done instead of a half job. Although yabu for the term “media wall” 😏

He was here anyway fitting the wall so obviously just did it himself. But I just thought well I’m paying you a daily rate to be here anyway so why would I pay both that and the fee for an electrician.

I will probably end up paying it but just wanted to check others opinions.
