Shein and Vinted

I’ve never bought from Shein before or even really looked at what they offer because I’m put off by stories of their ethics (or lack thereof). Like most people though Im not a complete purist when it comes to fast fashion and I will buy from H&M,, Primark Zara etc all of which I know have attracted criticism.
I’d say 80% of my wardrobe comes from Vinted or charity/vintage shops. Mostly for cost reasons and also because it means I’m not tied to wearing what’s on trend currently.

But…Would IBU to buy shein items from Vinted as I need cheap summer wear and there is loads on there? I’m thinking at least It avoids it going to landfill but am I a hypocrite considering I’m sniffy about buying it from source?

I think it’s fine because it’s in circulation now anyway.

MrsSethGecko · 11/07/2025 21:41

I won't buy from Shein directly but I'll buy bits from charity shops and Vinted. Like you say, keeps it out of landfill.

EstaGo · 11/07/2025 21:43

I don't. I'm not going to support such unethical practice even second time around.

Additionally, I also think customers need to realise that no one wants the sh*t they have bought. No resale value.

Shein stuff is awful, poor fabrics, poorly made, and hit and miss sizing. Why do you think there is so much of it being resold?

If the buyer hates it/can't wear it/doesn't fit, why would I risk it!

FeministUnderTheCatriarchy · 11/07/2025 21:44

As PP said, buying it from Vinted or Ebay isn't supporting SHEIN.

I find their plus sized stuff quite good actually and I have a few dresses that I got about 3 years ago. I actually find their dresses more flattering than high street options. And they definitely last at least as long as Primark or H&M.

I prefer Ebay to Vinted, but either way your money is going to an individual not the company so totally fine :)

The other side of the argument is that by buying Shein products from people on Vinted, you’re giving money to the people who buy from Shein, so they will go and spend more money on Shein products.

Screamingabdabz · 11/07/2025 21:47

I avoid them even on Vinted. The connection with modern day slavery is too grotesque for me to contemplate.

MyCyanReader · 11/07/2025 21:51

Shein were reported not only for paying their workers very little, but also for making huge salary deductions for any mistakes...

I tend to buy 2nd hand clothes.
I also bought a pair of trousers from Boden in their sale which lasted 8 years of teaching!!

I don't mind buying new stuff but it needs to be quality stuff that lasts.

2dogsandabudgie · 11/07/2025 21:52

I've never bought from Shein but don't they sell items ridiculously cheap like 59p or something. So if it was on Vinted wouldn't it cost more than that or am I missing something.

FunkyMonks · 11/07/2025 21:54

Avoid them on vinted can’t stand temu or primark either and vinted is being flooded with awful crap even Chinese crap off likes of Amazon people are trying to sell stuff from these sites on vinted for mark up.
clearly believing that people are dull enough to buy it when a simple search shows you where said item is from and how much it originally costs.

Tedsnan1 · 11/07/2025 21:56

I don't buy from Shein for the same reasons as you.
However, I bought a top from Vinted which was 'unbranded'. Turns out it was from Shein. Poor sizing, cheap polyester. I've actually sold it on in the last few minutes, I listed it as Shein.
The experience has confirmed my decision not to use them.

PorkPieForStarters · 11/07/2025 22:15

I wouldn't due to their ethics and the reasons listed by others. I don't want to create demand for second hand items from those types of places, making people thinking it's ok to buy from there in the first place as they can sell it on.

Yes, I totally see what you mean. But I reckon they’d do that anyway.

Yeah you’re probably right I just wouldn’t want to help them do it or supporting 🤣

Laura95167 · 12/07/2025 22:08

Tbh so off them are cheaper directly from shein and you can usually see pics in the reviews to know which ones are good

AIthenamesaregone · 12/07/2025 22:14

I wouldn’t after seeing someone justify buying clothes from shien because “they were going to eco friendly and put them on vinted after wearing them”
