To think my interview can’t have gone that well?

The interviewers were nodding and smiling and seemed pleased when I mentioned important ‘key words’ or experience relating to the role. But it only lasted 20 mins. And they didn’t say when/if they’ll be in touch after, they just said email them if I have any more questions. I asked 4-5 questions at the end. Is this a bad sign?

Was there someone else waiting to go in?
The interview might have been scheduled to be 20 minutes.

It doesn't sound as though you spoke at length in response to their questions. So while they've been nodding and smiling at the things you did say, it's possible you didn't say enough of them. Of course much will depend on the job and how many questions there were.

What sort of role was it? I've had loads of interviews for mid-level admin type roles and they've only ever been about 20ish minutes, I guess because those roles attract more candidates so they have to fit a lot of people in for interview.

Yes, it was that type of role. I think they have other people interviewing today also.

I didn’t see anybody else but I do know they have other people. There was no time frame of how long the interview would last on the email confirmation. I know sometimes it says ‘expected to last 1 hour’ or however long.

My worst interviews are the ones I ended up getting - except one where I truly had a blank mind and I was unsure of the job anyway.

so did you email them the 4-5 questions? I think it shows you are interested in the role and company by asking questions.

Sounds more than likely, they will have scheduled a day maybe two to get all interviews in. If you didn't see anyone else then it may be that your interview was the last one before a "break". 20 minutes and asking a few questions at the end sounds appropriate to me based on what you've said. Try not to worry too much and best of luck!!

Can I suggest from the fact you bumped your thread after only 20 minutes that perhaps waiting for things to happen isn't your strongest suit? And that you could apply this to the interview situation and just wait to hear back from them and not second guess it, especially when they're still interviewing people?

Lins77 · 10/07/2025 11:33

There's nothing from what you've said to indicate it went badly. But of course there's no way of knowing what the outcome is likely to be - depends on who else has applied and how they performed at interview!

Good luck 🤞
