Online dating red flags? Or a quilt?

Heyo, I was chatting to a man online who sounded really nice. But after four days chatting on and off, with him sending annoying heart emoji but otherwise sounding cool, he was saying things like My heart aches for you, and, I'd be so crushed if you rejected me in person. After he said the My heart aches for you line I bailed. Never met the guy. I think that’s red flaggy. Am I being unreasonable?

Of course you’re not being unreasonable. This guy is a walking red flag.

LaudCodec · 10/07/2025 08:43

No, it’s all just too much. You’d never even met. And even after you’d met, that kind of gushy bollocks would have me running for the hills.

Menopants · 10/07/2025 08:43

Yup . tbh 4 days messaging without any meet up plans is a red flag. Next time video call and look them in the eye , saves time and confusion.

its2025 · 10/07/2025 08:45

urgh - love bombing so soon into just chatting would have me running too.

I think you did the right thing.

Since we live geographically close, which I know because he told me his suburb ( I didn't reciprocate obvs), I'm extremely glad I didn't meet him. Probably would have followed me home. I'm not meeting or videocalling a virtual stranger, what a weird suggestion.

More red flags than the Russian army on Putins birthday parade

His name isn’t Steve by any chance!

Isn't that the whole point of dating? I'm not being difficult or rude but a video call after a few messages establish es if you actually want to meet them.

CockSpadget · 11/07/2025 17:19

4 days, 4 months or 4 years in, the phrase “my heart aches for you” is an instant tuppy sealer.

Userengage · 11/07/2025 17:35

“I'd be so crushed if you rejected me in person” gets me thinking that his photos are not the true/current him.

Or he’s 6 inches shorter than he claims to be

FeministUnderTheCatriarchy · 11/07/2025 17:39

Yeah he's defo lying about his photos or height. Also love bombers like this are also either deeply insecure men who can't emotionally regulate or narcissists and both do serious emotional damage.

I would be running for the hills! Well done for not reciprocating on location sharing.

Not in a small town when you're a quite noticeable redhead and he's told you he lives about three km away and is a fruitcake. The less he knows about me the better. I think the point of online dating is vetting for safety BEFORE they can identify you in a shopping centre.

Definitely red flag or a scammer/, especially if photos looked unbelievably good

Nah they looked average. Just your garden variety lovebombing creep.

OP, yes it’s weird, but I did laugh at the “garden variety love bombing creep” bit, brilliant lol
