When did shops started selling autumn home decor

Went to some shops today. TK Maxx and Matalan had autumn home decor. Plates, mugs, cushions, duvet covers, metal wall art with ‘Autumn vibes’ or similar.

I’m sure that this crap wasn’t on sale 10 years ago.

It’s seems unnecessary, expensive and then some people don’t have the space to store the excess cushions etc.

i use the same mugs, cushions and duvet covers all year round.

I was in TK Maxx yesterday and it was FULL of Halloween stuff 😱 I haven’t even had my summer holiday!

Don't buy it then.

What’s making you annoyed? The fact that autumn stuff is on sale in July? Or the fact that autumn stuff is on sale at all?

I like a bit do seasonal decor. I don't swap over plates and cushions or anything, but a few bits here and there and on the mantelpiece. But I want to shop for autumn things when it feels autumny, not in the middle of summer. By then the Christmas stuff will be out. Now, I want to buy pretty things for my garden but they've mostly cleared now!

Why is the expense relevant if you're under no obligation to buy it?
Same with the storage - yeah some people might not have the space but some people do.

Basically, why do you care?

I'm not coming from a position of defensiveness -I'm like you and don't have seasonal sets of "stuff" (other than thicker bending for winter) and go for a more minimalist style of decorating but from a devil's advocate point of view say a bedding set (or cushion cover or whatever) had a lifecycle of, what 2 years of full use. You could either have just one set that you replace every two years when it becomes too worn, or two sets that you alternate whenever you wash your bedding which therefore last for four years, or four sets that you change with the seasons and dont need to be replaced for 8 years because they are each only used a quarter as much.

Either way you end up buying 4 sets of bedding over the course of 8 years so it doesn't necessarily have to be wasteful.

Some people like spending money on their homes, is that really that big a deal?

Everyone has different things they spend their money on. I'm sure you probably spend money on things some people think are "unnecessary" and "crap" too.

Seasonal stuff has been on for decade+

Agree with @latetothefisting as well
