I think my neighbour is growing weed

Started off a couple of years ago with their Son (early 20’s) smoking it in the garden when he was back from Uni. Now he’s back full time, the smell is constant. In the rear garden it stinks and although we aren’t attached, it can be smelt in the downstairs room nearest their external wall. We are separated by a shared alleyway.

I am not massively fussed by the occasional toot in their garden as long as it’s not when we are out there. I have teenage kids and I don’t like the constant smell now.

They aren’t the most approachable. I suspect Mom and Dad might be smoking it too. Do I report them (I don’t have proof) or just hope he grows (excuse the pun) out of it and gets a proper job!

Report

There are all sorts of issues associated with 'Grows'

As someone who has been in a similar position, the police won't do anything. You've got no proof of any grow set up, selling etc. They're not bothered about people smoking in their own houses. My neighbour was known to the police and they couldn't do anything.

What makes you think they’re growing it, rather than just smoking it?

BCBird · 06/07/2025 16:23

When my neighbours smoke it stinks in my house. If it smelled like lavender or something else that is pleasant I wouldn't mind. Horrible smell 😬

If you have reasonable grounds, report it. Even if you are OK with a trade that contributes to murders in Mexico and other countries, the way it is probably grown is a fire risk.

PonyPatter44 · 06/07/2025 16:27

Why do you think he is growing it rather than just smoking it? Can you see any evidence in the house?

Liamsrightbrow · 06/07/2025 16:31

To clarify why I think they are growing it….The smell is constant. Even when they are all out of the house. The initial just outdoors smell when he was smoking in their garden has been replaced by this constant smell.

What about people who grow it just for their own personal use? Before you start making big claims about murders in bloody Mexico

@GanninHyem Why didn’t they do anything? Did they not even have a word with them?
