Late stage capitalism

I hear this phrase a lot but what does it even mean? Late stage seems to imply that we are coming to the end - and it wont be good. The state the UK is in, and the rest of the world to some extent, makes me worry about the future. I am 38 and in my lifetime especially the last few years - things seem so much worse. Job market, housing, NHS, cost of
living, quality of life. AIBU?

Will historians look back and think blimey - glad I didn't live then?

It was coined about 100 years ago to describe what the man who came up with it (I think a German sociologist) thought was happening at that time. So I imagine what it meant then vs what’s it’s used to mean now is quite different. I don’t think there’s a set definition everyone agrees on, and some people don’t think it’s a useful term anyway.
