To take today off work?

I started with an awful cold yesterday afternoon. It hit me from nowhere and I had to get a taxi home from work.

I honestly thought I wouldn't last the hour long taxi journey home without being sick. I felt dreadful. Coughing, sinus blockage and really painful roof of my mouth and teeth and my bones felt painful too.

I've dosed myself up, drank lemon and honey and lathered myself in Vicks vapour rub but I'm still coughing my lungs up. I have a few important meetings at work today, one very important. I can't go to work like this, can I?

No. Send an email now then get some rest?

Thank you, Matilda. I feel awful cancelling such important dates in my calendar, but I feel rotten and I'm sure the attendees would rather not share my germs ready for the weekend.

It would be selfish to go in as other colleagues may live with vulnerable adults.

Optimustime · 04/07/2025 04:49

Think of the joy your colleagues will feel when their Friday meetings get cancelled

BCBird · 04/07/2025 04:53

No . Phone in, cancel etc and recuperate.

YBU for even considering going to office. If you’re sick, you’re sick - it can’t be helped. You should also stay away from office/public spaces for as long as you’re contagious.

Rug up, rest up and recover!

Tbh honest OP I feel that if you went in today it would undermine how sick you felt yesterday that caused you to leave early.
Stay in bed and recover. Your appointments can be rescheduled.
I hope you feel better soon

ClearHoldBuild · 04/07/2025 06:17

I can’t believe you feel the need to ask. What would you say to a colleague if they came in feeling how you do?

Agix · 04/07/2025 06:18

Yeah you sound much too unwell. Keep your germs at home!

This is the downside to working from home. Absolutely no excuse for a day off when you're WFH... No one to pass the germs on too, and you can have a lemsip at the laptop lol.

CoastalCalm · 04/07/2025 07:28

Covid is high at the moment so I’d really appreciate any colleagues in your situation staying out of the office

Strongcuppaplease · 04/07/2025 07:52

You’re clearly not well, so don’t go in. It’s also obviously very unfair on your work colleagues and their families if you go in. Hope it doesn’t take too long to pass.

Sounds like cpvid, especially with the rapid onset.
