Hi MN,
Am posting here for traffic, sympathy & advice…Genuinely can’t believe how ill I feel, have been in bed all day (apart from when I’m running to the toilet)
Sharp pains in my stomach, headache & nausea that’s off the scale. I rarely get ill & this is unbearable.
I’ve had to cancel off some really important work stuff today/tomorrow as well - massive guilt levels! At a time when I needed to be there.
How can I feel better? Any advice on getting through this hideousness? It’s proper shit.

My adult DD and her partner had this last week. Exact same symptoms. So poorly. First thought it was food poisoning but didn't explain the general flu like aches and pains and the headache. Had a telephone consult with their Dr who suggested it could be the new covid strain as one of its main symptoms is gastro issues. They had tests still at home so dug a couple out and it showed positive for covid. So it could be this new strain that it knocking around.

They were pretty ill with the same symptoms as you are showing and were in bed for a couple of days with it. My DD said the nausea was awful and she couldn't stay off the loo for the first 2 days!!

Thanks @ErlingHaalandsManBunthat sounds horrific for your family - hope they have recovered now. Yes the aches & pains are the worst!

DS & I have just had this too - although we both couldn’t keep water down for the first 24 hrs. We assumed a norovirus type thing - didn’t even think of Covid!

Nope. My DD couldn't even keep water down. I kept telling her to sip on water even though she feels sick so she can stay hydrated but she was just throwing it back up again. They didn't think of Covid until their Dr said that it was a very common symptom of the new strain.

They have both fully recovered now but were both very poorly for a couple of days. I really hope you start to feel better soon.

Strongcuppaplease · 03/07/2025 22:30

Hope you feel better soon whatever it is. I thought gastro symptoms were always quite common for covid, esp in kids.

I have also had this for over two weeks. It started a sharp pains, nausea and unhappy bowels. I was also feeling really exhausted for a week. It starts to go away and then comes back. Several of my colleagues also have it now, it is a long lasting bug. Just feels unusual to be norrovirus in July. Have wondered if it's covid but tested negative both times a few days apart.

Lynz301 · 20/07/2025 11:36

One of my friends from work lad this last week - she initially thought it was food poisoning but then tested positive for covid! Sounds nasty!

R0ckandHardPlace · 20/07/2025 11:49

If it was Norovirus you’d have violent eruptions from both ends by now. It does sound Covidy.

BeMellowAquaSquid · 20/07/2025 11:50

I caught a gastro bug in India and a local doctor made me drink (sip) hot sweet black tea. I swear by it now. Flat coke and salty food always helps me too something simple like a salt and vinegar rice cake. It’s always such a relief when you turn that corner. Make sure when you can you replace your electrolytes you’ll recover much better if you can. Wishing you well x

is anyone uk based with this ?, I’ve had it for nearly 2 weeks now, unhappy stomach alternating with hard then loose stools, fatigue and viral symptoms its awful !

JTA1972 · 04/08/2025 07:01

I’m the same,2 weeks in, awful reflux and digestive issues constipation then loose stools, i have IBS anyway but this is just making it worse, dry sore throat and cough and fatigue also aches and pains as well

DinoLil · 04/08/2025 08:12

I came down with this on Thursday. It's just starting to ease off after I ordered some ginger and lemon kombucha and sipped it ice cold yesterday. Interestingly, that contains black tea as per PP.

The nausea was horrific. Throwing up every 20 minutes for the first 24hrs, not daring to move because you know you'll instantly be ill again. The temperature, the aches...urgh.
