To ask you to check your Citroen

There's a Stop-Drive affecting certain models and years of Citroen which means they are not safe to drive after a woman was killed by shrapnel in an exploding airbag in France.
The BBC article tells you only some of the affected cars that are on an immediate stop-drive with others just being on a recall. It also says that only cars from 2013-2016 are affected but this is not the full story.
The full list is on Citroen's website.
Please check your car in case it's affected. You might have also got a letter in the post (if you still get decent postal service).
Mine isn't... as of yet. They're on a staggered recall which means you need to keep checking sporadically in case the information changes.

I don't know what people are supposed to do, it sounds like Citroen are overwhelmed with people getting in touch atm. It reminds me of that ginormous tumble dryer fire issue a few years back, we were waiting 2 years for them to fix ours when they said it would be 6 months.

Oops forgot to post the original BBC article - don't rely on this to know if your car is affected, do check with the manufacturer. Better safe than sorry. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0m8872n9gxo

Thanks - we’d had the notice and mine is. The local Citroen garage has booked me in - for late September. Bit a first world problem but it’s logistically very difficult for us.

How are you getting your car to the garage? Will citreon pick up or will you have to pay for a tow truck?

DS has just bought a C1 so think we're fine. Hope all those affected get their cars checked out promptly. There's always something.

First I’ve heard of this, thanks for sharing! We have a C4 Picasso, absolutely love it but freaked out now (even though not one of the models in question).

My car is on the recall list. I managed to get through to the helpline yesterday after being on hold for 40 minutes, only to be told they were having technical problems so couldn’t look at any details or see when I could get it fixed. Told me to ring back on Monday.

it’s a nightmare logistically. I cannot get to work without a car. I have a funeral to go to next week and I need a car. I’ve had to book a hire car for a week in the hope that I’ll at least have an idea of when mine can be fixed over the next few days, but also to buy a bit of time to look for a new car. I’ve known my current car would have to go at some point but was hoping to get another year out of it as I paid £300 last week to get it through its MOT.

I’m hoping I’ll be able to claim back the hire car costs but it’s not clear. I’m fortunate that I can get a hire car and that I have the savings for a deposit on a new one, although I wanted to have saved more.

it’s just a huge stress. People need their cars and to be told you can’t drive it, possibly for months on end, is just a nightmare.

As a side note, my insurance have confirmed that I’m not insured to drive it unless I’m taking it to a pre booked appointment to get the airbags fixed, so at least I don’t have to worry about getting it to the dealer. Also RAC are apparently getting booked to repair them at home.

When DH filled the form in online they asked if we’d be happy for them to fix it on the drive so hopefully that’s an option. He spoke to the helpline yesterday who said that they are anticipating a fuller update from Citroen next week regarding options. It’s just a bit shitty because ds2 is only insured to drive the DS3 and it means he won’t be able to drive again until Christmas as it won’t be fixed until after he goes back to Uni. Citroen’s courtesy car policy excludes under 25yos (and over 75yos).

Has anyone actually managed to get their recalled citroen towed to a garage for the repair? Citroen helpline have told me its RAC doing the towing, but RAC say its nothing to do with them. Also has anyone managed to get the apparently available courtsey car through F2M? Again big promises from Citroen customer helpline but nothing came of it.

autumnboys · 14/08/2025 18:23

The helpline have been absolutely useless. I am going to drive mine to be fixed next week. The garage tell me that’s what everyone has been doing and I just want the wretched thing done.

My MIL had to hire a tow truck on the promise that the Citroen garage will reimburse her
