Neighbour and fence

Our neighbours have been doing work on their side of the fence, looks like they're putting new panels up. Only thing is the nails they have been using are about an inch too long and are poking through on our side of the fence. We have 2 dc and if they were to fall into the fence they would have a nasty injury there's 3 of these nails every 2 or 3 panels on our side.

We don't particularly get on with them so where do we stand on this?

Get a hammer and hammer them down?
Or hammer them back towards their side
Just go and explain to them and ask if they can sort it out please.

I would talk to them, mention your concerns, and ask them if they would come round and deal with the issue.
