Urgent referral for colposcopy

Hi all,

Looking for some advice and apologies for the long post!

HPV positive for 3 years (one smear delayed due to pregnancy). On Friday, I received my smear results just under 2 weeks of the smear. The smear shows HPV and borderline cell changes.

Yesterday I received a letter in the post saying I’m booked in for colposcopy next week and it’s at a gynaecologist oncology department at a hospital in the neighbouring trust/local authority.

I’m happy I only have to wait a week but AIBU to think they're suspecting something bad to refer me so quick and to the oncology department in a different LA when I live next door to the local hospital that also offers colposcopy? Or is one week a normal wait time for a colposcopy?

I’ve been to the GP due to heavy bleeding, weird smell alongside back and pelvic pain. I was sent for an ultrasound which showed a large dermoid cyst. Last week I passed what looked like a piece of rubbery flesh/tissue and was bleeding heavily. GP thought it was a miscarriage despite being on the pill as my period had been late but a pregnancy test ruled it out. I’m worried now it might be related to the abnormal smear.

Any advice greatly appreciated. 😊

The Smear result in isolation & HPV not alarming & quite common. HPV lingers for some. The ultrasound may have triggered the colposcopy. Can’t answer on rest but great they are investigating fast. Try not to worry. Easy to say I know.

@User14March thanks for your reply 😊 I was wondering if the ultrasound might have triggered it. They referred me to the same department years ago in my teens due to suspected ovarian cancer (turned out to just be another large ovarian cyst). That’s what has been worrying me that they think it’s something bad but you’re right it’s great they're acting fast!
