To think it's too hot to parent

Ohtobemycat · 28/06/2025 20:16

It's really hot in my house, it's 8 o clock at night. Noone is going to get any sleep soon.
We are watching toy story, and I can't be bothered to do much else. I am sure a
i should be playing a board game or doing some reading with the kids. We went to a family fun day today also and lasted 2 hours and then came home and did nothing. Noone even wanted dinner so we ate a bunch of random stuff instead.

Aibu to be not parenting, just sitting here with the film on like a withered lettuce leaf?

Could you get a fan?

How old are your kids?

They'll be having a great time - a fun day, late bedtime, a random concoction for dinner. Perfect!

Hopefully an ice cream van chimes its annoying sound in your street before you go to bed, get the kids (and you) a cone and you’ll be mother of the year.

soundsys · 28/06/2025 20:26

Ha that sounds very much like our day!

mondaytosunday · 28/06/2025 20:28

I think you are parenting. It doesn’t mean you have to be ‘doing’ all the time! Chilling out is fine (excuse the choice of words as not many are chilling now).

Nomorelabubus · 28/06/2025 20:32

It's fine. You're still parenting. No one can be on the go all the time and the kids need time to relax too.

Uricon2 · 28/06/2025 20:46

It's too hot to breathe let alone start playing Worthy Board Games! Still 27 where I am.

They'll be fine.

BuffaloCauliflower · 28/06/2025 20:47

Sounds absolutely fine! Enjoy relaxing

Nodlikeyouwerelistening · 28/06/2025 20:49

Days like today are about survival and nothing else. I’m with you.

Hobbitfeet32 · 28/06/2025 20:52

Why would you think that chilling watching a film is not parenting? Everyone needs downtime

MaybeItsTimeForMeNow · 28/06/2025 20:58

We're watching spiderman. The kids are fidgety and annoying but there's absolutely no point putting them to bed. Toddler is down but it's showing as 27 in her room. My lot have played ball games and sand pit in the morning in the garden when it was cooler, uno, Domino's, hot wheels under a parasol when it was baking. Picky lunch, and pizza for dinner + an ice cream. Doritos for the movie (yes theyve had fruit and smoothies too!!). A piggy sloth day they will probably mark as the best day ever. Stop beating yourself up and just roll with it. Be back to rain in a few days.

I'm cracking the wine when they go to bed though!!!!

WisePearlPoet · 28/06/2025 21:02

Up here on the Scottish border we have had torrential rain all day, my gd asked for not chocolate earlier.

Tutorpuzzle · 28/06/2025 21:06

I’m so jealous @WisePearlPoet , so very jealous …..🤣🥵

Disturbia81 · 28/06/2025 21:07

You went out! That’s already a lot of effort in this weather.
even without that, your day just sounds like a normal chill day. It’s sad you think you should always be busy

OutandAboutMum1821 · 28/06/2025 21:30

YANBU OP. It’s hot, it’s the weekend, enjoy your film 😊 I’m the same today, very little energy as it’s week 3 of me feeling very unwell (prob covid, cannot stop coughing), so pretty fed up. We had a film in front of a fan too (there’s a new Paw Patrol one on Netflix).

NuffSaidSam · 28/06/2025 21:32

Board games and reading in the winter.

TV and lounging in the summer.

It's very important to have balance in your life.

TheChosenTwo · 28/06/2025 21:38

Christ relax!
You’ve had a few hours out of the house and are now watching a film. That’ll do for today!
Plenty of time for wholesome activities when everyone isn’t too hot and bothered.
I’ve felt okay today but do fare well in the heat unlike dh who has wandered about the house without a top on like a clammy toddler 😂 the dc are fine but he’s like a small child in the heat, proclaiming it to be ‘roasting’ when it gets to the mid 20’s ffs!

Sweetpea59 · 28/06/2025 22:06

I took my dgs for a haircut & we had a greggs sausage roll & an ice cream later.
He's gone home & dh & I have had a take away pizza & a cold cider. I'm overweight & feel guilty as hell but it's too hot to care! Will get back on track when this heat is over!
