Handwash or laundrette

Waiting for a new washing machine to be delivered in a couple of weeks.
Have a full load of washing to do, would you do it by hand in the kitchen sink- laborious, but will dry quickly outside as very hot. Or would you take it to the laundrette? Quite ridiculous but never been to one before

I would be paying for expedited delivery

Tootrad · 27/06/2025 15:08

You could go to so many places and get it delivered…, within a day or two!

Am abroad and it takes longer to deliver 😩
So i’m stuck with this dilemma

Is it just you or kids? Teens?

I would hand wash. Clean sink, warm water with a dash of laundary liquid (if you use powder swirl around until dissolved). Submerge clothes into sink and give them a good squeeze to make sure they are wet. Leave to soak for half an hour. Scrub together the fabric in places you know need a bit of extra cleaning (stains, armpits, gussets etc.). Give everything a really good squeeze and stir for a few mins. Drain the soapy water. Refill sink with warm fresh water, squeeze it all about again. Might need another rinse with another sink of fresh water.
Gently squeeze the water out (don't wring, you'll mess the fabric up). If things are still dripping wet, lay them out on a big towel and roll the towel up to soak up the excess water. Hang out to dry.

We have a launderette that is £4 per load, and can be a massive load, as much bigger machines. I would take a huge load with a colour catcher sheet, throw it all in together and then bring it home to dry

No way would I be hand washing for weeks!

why not do launderette once and see whether it suits you? If not, hand wash.

When I was stuck in crete for 4 days because my daughter was too sick to fly home i washed all our clothes in the bath with soap, it all dried outside and was surprisingly soft
