Advice on renting via agents

Ok so I am looking for some advice re renting via an estate agent.

My partner and I are currently renting privately, we have found a property we love but it is via an estate agent and I am aware they do credit checks and affordability checks. My problem is that neither of us have great credit scores (mine is slightly better than my partners) I could do the check on just me apparently but as I only work part time I think I’d fail the affordability check (partner pays rent, bills etc as he earns a lot more than me!) My partner has a CCJ and an IVA so I am worried that this will impact negatively on the decision.

We have never paid our rent late or missed any payments nor have we ever not been able to pay the bills, but I am worried we will miss out on the property because of this. We are going to tell the estate agents all of this and be open and honest but I am just wondering if anyone had similar experience?

I think it more depends on the landlord, so the estate agents will go to them and say these tenants have this etc and it'll ultimately be up to them. Definitely be upfront with them and ask them, they'll be able to tell you better.
If you do struggle though, I believe the council are a bit more lenient with credit history, I don't believe they check at all
