to take these shoes back?

Went to a proper shoe shop that sells clarks, startrite, kickers etc. Got dd's feet measured and spent quite a long time with the assistant trying on various shoes looking for a good fit.

Bought some Clarks wellies, some Clarks Doodles and some Clarks sandles. The assistant even advised me against the sandles I liked best in favour of these as dd walked better in them (the ones I liked best were more expensive).

Dd seems okay in the wellies, but keeps tripping up in the doodles and the sandles. She's normally pretty sturdy and doesn't fall over very often. She always runs everywhere, but every time she runs in these she trips over her feet.

In the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that she was wearing the doodles when she tripped over her feet and ended up in A&E for 12 hours getting her face sewn back together by the specialist maxilofacial team, so I am rather emotionaly invested in my dislike of these bloody shoes. She has since tripped and bloodied her knee, and I've thrown the things in the cupboard under the stairs.

Sandles not yet worn outside the house, so no worries there.

Would I be unreasonable to take back the doodles and ask for a refund? Or is it reasonable to expect a 2-year-old to be a bit clumsy in new shoes?

hmm i was under the impression clarks offered a refund on poorly fitting shoes, and even gave comp if a vblister was caused, one would argue that you know your daughter well enough to know whther it was the shoes or her, so i would say you have nothing to loose by returning them provided you approach with the right tact, your poor DD by the way !

Your poor dd! I hope she is OK now?
The only time my dd has ever tripped over much in her shoes is when they were the wrong size for her. They weren't new and I thought they still fit, but they clearly didn't - I binned them after that.
Shoe fittings can be a nightmare! Last time dd needed new school shoes I tried 3 shops before getting the very pair that the first shop said didn't fit! They have been fine.
I don't think you are unreasonable at all!

have only read o/p buti think the problem could be in Clark's sizing for sandals.

I went in to get dd fitted the other day, she was measured as a 6 1/2 G. However her big toe was slightly too long for the sandal, so he tried her with a 7 G. That was ridiculously long, her toes only came halfway down the sole, and i knew she would have accidents in them. So we ended up getting the 6 1/2 because the weather was stinking hot and i couldnt stand to see her feet sweltering in shoes any longer. Feel crap about it but not sure what else i could have done, there's no other kids shoe shops within a 20 mile radius.

Or maybe i've got the wrong end of the stick entirely and that wasn't what the o/p meant at all

I suppose I can only go and ask.

If she is tripping in them sounds like they are too big for her.

I would be doing more than taking the shoes back, TBH. I can't imagine that the store staff would be able to help you in the way you need aside form a refund. I would be talking to head office, taking photos of injuries and writing letters.

good luck and hope DD is ok.

Are they all the same size ? I've a feeling Doodles come up differently to regular Clarks so if they've sold you the same they may not actually be the best fit.

2point4kids · 24/05/2008 18:09

Ds ALWAYS trips over his feet when he goes up a size in shoes.
Its the getting used to having a bit of extra shoe there that takes a few days ime

my dc trip up when they get new sandals, seems to be the rubber bit at the front that just catches
