Can I identify as a cat

Ohtobemycat · 25/06/2025 11:26

Just that really.
I get up at 5, do some work, housework, gets kids to school. Carry on with work. Get kids, work, dinner, work, tidy, clean and washing, every day.

My cats are just lying around during all of this, watching me work, sleeping and requesting food sometimes they do feel like helping and remove/eat a spider. But other than that, just freeloading and looking cute. Nothing to do all day, permanent summer holiday feeling. No bills, no washing, no work.

If I identify as a cat, can I tell my family that I have transitioned and request to be treated as such?

Yabu = no, you can't be a cat.
Yanbu = yes, go for it.

Lot's of food for thought here, thank you all...
Some things raised that I hadn't though about are:
Licking my bum, I actually couldn't reach.. so then what?
Defecating.. where? Gardens or litter box.. being a cat I would not be able to poo in my own garden so options are limited to other peoples or a tray in the corner.
Food- i actually think this can be resolved as i would eat plain chicken and tuna, and be happy stealing scraps off my childrens plates, which I currently do anyway when they have finished eating.
Actually thinking I can live with these three things as the benefits outweigh these not so negatives.

Re toileting options...

You could be one of those really clever cats that's learnt how to use the human toilet.

Daily mail is that you?

No, it's just me, a woman who is jealous of her cats 😂

Ofcourse you can! If we can decide to be male/female/non gender then I'm all for the cat people as well!

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 25/06/2025 12:35

Bum licking?

Pilates classes. They can't kick you out for being a feline. That would be discrimination.

Toileting: if you're in Fife, you're welcome to use my garden facilities, on condition that you keep out all the other cats. Just don't use my flower beds. You're welcome to pounce on the pigeons and seagulls, but watch out for the magpies - they're fierce.

SabreIsMyFave · 25/06/2025 13:37

😆 Do it @Ohtobemycat !

FuzzyPuffling · 25/06/2025 13:47

I would have trouble with this, as I am unable to jump onto my shed roof.

BexAubs20 · 25/06/2025 18:54

Perfectly reasonable. Before you fully transition be sure to go shopping for essentials, litter tray, scratch post, a bowl for your cream, some nice tuna steaks. Live your life! Meow

And catnip. Must not forget the catnip! Judging from the way mine roll around in it and become slobbering stoned totally out of it versions of themselves it's good stuff!

I have often said that in my next life I am coming back as a house cat

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 25/06/2025 19:14

I also envy our cats daily. They're always so bloody comfy looking. And they have little soft paws to hug their little soft faces with when they're sleepy. It's ridiculous.

This thread 😄😄😄

Are your family likely to cater for your every whim? If it's just you obeying your current cat's demands then I think they might ignore you and life might not be as comfortable as you are hoping.

HeisenbergMum · 25/06/2025 23:11

If you have to ask surely you are not a cat?

Olivesforteatonighty · 25/06/2025 23:17

Yes @Ohtobemycat , go for it but don’t moan when my dog chases you.

😁 I really should read The Metamorphosis

XenoBitch · 25/06/2025 23:26

Only if you are prepared to be posted on FB all the time about looking like a stray, being picked up and removed from your neighbourhood and taken to the vets for a scan of a chip you should have (but don't).
