Currently live in hassocks, 3 kids, 8,4,1.
Partner has been offered a promotion but office is in feltham.
We lived there in 2016-2021 and have come custom to a more semi rural life. (I work in brighton though which is 15 mins away)
Husband thinks we should move back, as he hasn't fit in culturally here and thinks it's best to be near family there etc but everyone is telling us we would be absolutely stupid to leave?

Aibu to not want to go back to feltham?

Advise write it down , the pro and cons. Money, accommodation, travel other outgoing
How is your work impacted? Is his promotion significant
So the 8yo need to change school, the other two will change nursery.

Where is Hassocks? I've never heard of it. Can't say I blame you for not wanting to go back to Feltham though. I live about 5 miles from Feltham and my daughter actually lives there, has been there 8 years and she's not keen on the place. A bit rough,to put it bluntly.

Stay put in Hassocks! No comparison to Feltham! You will miss the clean country air !

corlan · 24/06/2025 23:33

You don't have to go too far out of Feltham along the M3 to be semi rural. Have you thought about living in Surrey or Berkshire and your husband could commute into Feltham?

sockfluffblowinginthewind · 25/06/2025 00:03

Feltham, oh Lord no I wouldn’t.

Surely there’s a compromise, somewhere a short commute away. A bit more developed than your current location, but not Feltham.

Peoniesandcats · 25/06/2025 00:12

Definitely dont live in Feltham, like what the others say - get him to commute. Think about the schools as well!

ThatMrsM · 25/06/2025 12:37

I wouldn't live in Feltham but there are plenty of nice places to live not to far for him to commute. Would you need to find a new job if you moved or could you work remotely?

Oh I loved my days living in Hassocks! Always used to go up the big hill just outside it to go stargazing. Such clean air and skies!

It's a bit of a dump but has some nice little pockets. Avoid Hounslow also, both in the Ulez zone. Sunbury, Ashford, Staines, Egham, Chertsey are nicer on the whole.
