WhatsApp Siri AARGH

Use WhatsApp to message family etc and often use it in car.
Last few days, notification pops up on car screen but when I tap it, voice doesn’t read out message and just says “do you want to reply”. If I ask Siri to read message, it says I don’t have any!!!
I’ve tried everything online I can find. No use.
Sure it must be WhatsApp as text messaging is working.
Deleted WhatsApp app and it’s currently failing to restore from the cloud.

Help! Mumsnet always has somebody who pops up and says “aha, you need to do x,y,z”

Turn the volume up on car audio when it is reading the message - sometimes the 'siri' voice assistant and the audio of the message have independent volume - and you may have turned the message audio down to 0

Mine has also started doing this, I noticed yesterday, maybe it’s just a glitch that hopefully will resolve itself.

Oh, I had that at the weekend. I assume it's probably because of a software upgrade on WhatsApp or something?

Wish I’d asked the hive mind before I deleted and reinstalled WhatsApp. Glad it’s not just me so thank you all for that.
Restore failed and I’ve lost all chats.😱
Might be a valuable lesson in over reliance on technology. But right now I could weep.
Plan now is to leave it the fuck alone and hope the gremlins fix it and it spontaneously starts working again. Sigh
