What do we think this could be?
My child is 5 months old. They have cows milk protein allergy. For the past couple of months at the weigh ins with the HV, they have not been putting on adequate weight (I.e. 7g per day rather than 20g per day).
We visited a private paediatrician and she mentioned potential other allergies including celiac. We are awaiting a further referral to an NHS paediatrician as per private Dr’s suggestion. She said the baby will need to be tested for other allergens as they appear to have hay fever etc. also.
I started tracking the babies food and milk intake (weaning started at 4 months as per dietitian’s recommendation due to the CMPA). She is slightly off her purees and her milk intake - most days is below 20oz.
We decided to try the baby with a small amount of gluten 5 days ago and on that day came up in a small spotty rash on the back and shoulders. Since then they have been extremely irritable at times and screams when trying to poo. They go from being constipated to having runny stools. one stool was a large hard pellet. Gurgling tummy, hard stomach etc. The most concerning part is the colour of the poo. It is very dark grey, almost black at times with white specks and some stringy mucus. Some poos are hard and others are explosions. They have not had gluten since the first try. They had 4 poos a day until the gluten and now they are on one a day.
They got bad nappy rash also now, which was a symptom when diagnosing CMPA.
The GP saw the baby today and said they are ok and to wait for the paediatrician.
Following that appointment, the baby had a very dark poo explosion which contained a small string of blood.
Has anyone experienced this with their baby?
The Dr we saw today is the same Dr who told me the baby did not have CMPA when in actual fact they have a bad allergy to it, hence seeking any experiences so I am prepared for the paediatrician appointment.
Thanks in advance.
