to find my own conveyancer?

I have made an offer on a flat with Foxtons, and they are pushing me to use their in-house conveyancer, Conveyan. Not sure why I don't feel keen on this, I guess I'd just rather have full say over the services I use? And to that end, can anyone recommend a good conveyancer they have used? I've had poor to mid experiences in previous sales and purchases. I'm based in North London but don't think the conveyancer necessarily needs to be local to me? Any suggestions?

No chance. For a multitude of reasons. At best Foxtons will get a backhander for recommending them to you. At worst reccomended conveyancers have been asked to cover up inconvenient facts in the past. It may be a hassle but find someone independent.

I have used Colman Coyle Islington twice.

Just to underline the previous poster's comments. I'm sure Conveyan are all hunky dory but they will be a bank of conveyancers possibly not aware of the locale, possibly too time constrained to go through a search with a fine tooth comb, and too close to Foxton's IMHO to negotiate hard on your behalf.
